Trained in the form and function of the oral and maxillofacial area, we are able to treat a variety of facial traumas including cuts to the face, lip, and inside of the mouth. We also treat fractured teeth, teeth that have been knocked out, as well as fractures to the cheek, nose, eye area and jaw.
Treatment of fractured bones depends on the severity and age of the patient but the basic treatment philosophy is to hold the parts of the bone in place so they can heal. Extensive damage may require wiring or plating techniques. Impacted teeth are teeth that have been stopped from properly erupting by the crowding of a neighboring tooth or by the bone in the jaw. Unfortunately, when a tooth is impacted, food can get caught between the gum and the tooth and can be difficult to keep clean — making it a prime candidate for gum infection. This could mean the loss of other, previously healthy teeth. While wisdom teeth are the most common teeth to become impacted, it is possible for any tooth to become impacted.
Impacted teeth, because they often become tilted while attempting to erupt, can damage the roots of neighboring teeth. Other complications from impacted teeth include sore throat, swollen neck glands, fever, and cysts. When there are simultaneous impacted teeth, we recommend that all of the offending teeth be removed in the same procedure.
Impacted canine teeth are also treated in conjunction with an orthodontist. We do an "uncovering" procedure to expose the canine so it can be moved to its normal position by continuing orthodontic treatment. Orthognathic surgery involves the repositioning of your lower and/or upper jaw bone to restore function and esthetic harmony. Patients who have an improper bite, such as a deep bite or open bite, can greatly benefit from corrective jaw surgery.
Problems with jaws can result from injury, birth defects, and different growth rates of the upper and lower jaw. In some cases the problem may be hereditary. In any case, misaligned jaws can affect chewing, speech, appearance, and oral health. Surgery can give you a more normal and natural jaw relationship, improved speech, and improved form and function. Pathology is the diagnosis and treatment of growths or lesions of the mouth, face, teeth, and jaws. From monitoring small benign lesions, to biopsies to major operating room procedures, we are trained and experienced in oral pathology. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder is a problem that has many symptoms. Some of the more common symptoms include pain in your jaw, problems opening your mouth wide, and clicking noises in your jaw when you open and close your mouth. Other symptoms may include frequent headaches, neck aches, and sore jaw muscles.
TMJ can be caused by a variety of reasons including the grinding of teeth or by accidental damage to the jaw joint. Once we have diagnosed you as having TMJ we will get you on a treatment program to correct the problem and to get your jaw working smoothly and trouble-free.

We perform elective cosmetic procedures to help you achieve the look you want. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained to be able to work with both hard tissue (bone and cartilage) and soft tissue (skin and muscle). Removing wrinkles around your eyes and mouth, altering chin size and contour.
We provide a number of procedures that can dramatically improve your appearance and increase your self-esteem. Chin surgery, or mentoplasty, involves either increasing or decreasing the size of your chin. In some procedures the chin bone is moved forward or backward (depending on whether the patient wants a more prominent or less prominent chin) while in others an artificial chin prosthesis can be used to create a more prominent chin. Sagging eyelids or pouches under your eyes can make you look years older. We can perform cosmetic surgery around the eyes, otherwise known as a blepharoplasty. Fat tends to settle in certain areas of our bodies. For many people, this means the development of a double chin. Double chins or excess fat around the jaw line develop for a variety of reasons that aren't necessarily related to diet or to being overweight.
In many cases, double chins and saggy jowls are the result of heredity or aging. Whatever the case, facial liposuction, using high pressure suction to remove excess fat, makes double chins a thing of the past. Whether your skin has been affected by trauma or acne, we offer treatments — modern, precise treatments — that can make a dramatic difference.
We can even turn back the hands of time by removing age spots, and even wrinkles!
